Yes. All youth interested in participating in WorkReady programs must complete a new application each year. We try to minimize the number of forms and make applications as easy as possible. However, funding guidelines and legal requirements mean that you need to apply each year.
Not necessarily. We work year-round to find funding and opportunities for as many young people as possible. However, due to a limited number of available positions and funding restrictions, placement is not guaranteed.
You are encouraged to apply again this year. However, due to the large demand for summer jobs, placement in a summer experience is not guaranteed.
After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail letting you know that your application has been received and will undergo review. If you do not see the confirmation e-mail after two minutes, check your junk mail or "spam" folder. The review process will take approximately five business days. After the review process is complete, you will receive another e-mail or phone call with your enrollment appointment (including date, time and location) or informing you that you have been placed on the waiting list. Please remember to check your e-mail regularly for updates on your status.
a. If you will be 18 years old or older as of July 6, 2010, you will not need a work permit.
b. WorkReady accepts both yellow and blue work permits.
c. Yellow work permits do not need to be renewed if they were issued by WorkReady Philadelphia or the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN). If you have a yellow work permit and it was issued by an agency other than WorkReady Philadelphia or PYN, then it must be renewed.
d. Blue work permits do not need to be renewed.
e. If you do not have a work permit, follow these directions:
Get an “Application for Employment Certificate or Transferable Work Permit;” this form will be included in the confirmation e-mail that will be sent to you after you complete the online application. If you misplace the form, you can get another copy from the guidance counselor at your school, or download it from the WorkReady Application site at
www.workreadyphila.org/youthapp (you will need Adobe Acrobat to open the file).
Complete sections A and B of the form. Section D must be completed by your doctor, so it is important that you schedule a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible. You will need to bring the form if you are scheduled for an enrollment appointment. If you obtain a job, WorkReady will provide you with your Work Permit during the program.
Any parent or youth with additional questions can contact the WorkReady Philadelphia Hotline at
